If you are on a lower income (such as in receipt of Universal Credit or other means-tested benefits), then there is financial help available for paying for neutering or spaying your pet.

We can provide low-cost neutering for cats and dogs in our Vet Suite at the Bath Cats & Dogs Home rehoming centre in Claverton Down, Bath.

To be eligible

•    You must be in receipt of Universal Credit or other means-tested benefits.
•    You must also live in our catchment area in Bath and North East Somerset or Wiltshire. To confirm you are within our catchment area, check you are in the orange area of this map VIEW» BCDH District map or you can search your postcode on LINK» www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/yourlocal to find your closest RSPCA Branch which will be your contact. If you are still not sure, you can also call us on 01225 787321 (during office hours).

The cost

For cats   Neutering is £50 for a male cat, and £80 for a female cat.  This covers the basics such as general anaesthesia and pain medication as they recover. Neither Bath Vets nor BCDH will profit from the operation. As a guide, at a standard vet a male cat neuter would cost about £100, and a female cat £140.

For dogs  Neutering costs depend on the size and gender of your dog.

Small, male dog (up to 25kg) £160
Small, female dog (up to 25kg) £200

Medium, male dog (25kg-45kg) £200
Medium, female dog (25kg-45kg) £260

We currently cannot take larger than 45kg dogs, as we don't have the recovery facilities on site - we can take these bookings from 2025 when we have our new facilities.

How it works

Your pet will be operated on in the Vet Suite at Bath Cats & Dogs Home, by a vet and nursing team from Bath Vets. The experienced team handle several neuters every day. There is a separate recovery room which is manned by our Animal Care team, so they will receive the best care.

We will book you an appointment once your application has been approved and you have paid. The Vet Suite also treats the rescue cats and dogs at the rehoming centre, so we will fit you in to their busy schedule. It may take 6-8 weeks to find you an appointment so please be patient.

The Vet Suite is open on Wednesdays. You will need to bring your pet in around 8.30am and pick them up at 3.30pm.

You will be provided with full pre-operation and post-operation care information once you have been booked in.
