Two volunteers chosen as finalists

Congratulations to our wonderful volunteers, Len and Julia!

The annual Impact Awards celebrate the work of staff and volunteers from RSPCA branches across the country.  Our volunteers Len and Julia were recently nominated for the Support and Engagement award category and here is a little snippet from each of their nominations. It's clear to see why they are both finalists in these awards as they have contributed such brilliant work to the charity. No doubt the judges will have a tough choice on their hands over the next few weeks as they make their final selections.

Len
Len is one of our most dedicated and longest serving volunteers and his contribution to the charity is absolutely invaluable. Len plays a vital role in sorting and transporting donated items to all our shops. His meticulous attention to detail ensures that items are organised and available for sale in a timely manner. Additionally, Len PAT tests electrical items on his own time, his expertise in this area ensures that we can safely sell these items, significantly contributing to our fundraising efforts. Len's commitment to our cause is unparalleled, he volunteers two or more days every week, dedicating a significant amount of his time, equivalent to many part-time paid staff members. His efforts often involve physically demanding tasks and the use of his own skills and resources. Len's reliability and willingness to step in at short notice have been crucial during times when we were short of help or urgently needed deliveries to our shops. Len and his beloved dog, Ziggy, whom he adopted from here in 2021, are familiar faces at our fundraising events, such as WAG walk and pub quizzes.

Julia
Julia has worked in our Fundraising and Trading team since early 2023 when she moved to the area and she immediately made a difference by taking on a variety of roles - helping us in the office, at fundraising and challenge events and later working in our new Retail Hub in central Bath in 2024. Julia embodies the core values of Bath Cats and Dogs Home, she is dedicated, compassionate, reliable, and always eager to help. Her positive attitude and commitment inspire both staff and fellow volunteers. Julia’s versatility is one of her most remarkable qualities. She willingly takes on various tasks as needed, demonstrating her flexibility and eagerness to support our organisation in any way possible. Julia consistently delivers exceptional work. Her ability to adapt and assist in multiple areas is invaluable to Bath Cats and Dogs Home. In addition to everything Julia has done as a volunteer, she and her family adopted a puppy from us in July 2023. Found as a stray and in poor health, Gregory captured everyone’s hearts but struggled to find a home due to his blindness until Julia and her husband stepped up to the challenge.

The winners of the RSPCA Impact Awards will be announced at 3pm on Tuesday 10th December in an online awards ceremony.

We can't wait to hear the results!
