Volunteer Spotlight - Holly

Posted byHayley Crymble | Volunteering

Meet Holly, who volunteers with us as Education & Outreach Admin Assistant

Please tell us a little bit about your life outside of BCDH

I am a full-time freelance animator and illustrator, living in Bath. I also run a small business where I sell my paintings and prints of my work. I have spent the summer training for the Bath Half Marathon, love swimming and going for hikes on my days off.

How long have you been volunteering at BCDH?

I have been volunteering for BCDH since February 2023.

What do you do here?

I am an administrative assistant in the Education & Outreach department. I assist with emails and enquiries, arranging school visits and creating documents. I recently assisted with a school visit and helped to present the different volunteer roles at the Home.

Why did you want to volunteer for BCDH?

I wanted to get involved with volunteering in the local area. I decided that I was able to give a little time every week, and so when I saw this role advertised it felt like the perfect opportunity. I am a cat lover, and fast becoming a dog lover too so it’s great to be in an environment where that is a focus. I am glad to put my admin skills towards a helpful, community focused cause.

What do you most enjoy about volunteering?

I enjoy the team spirit, the friendly faces and the kind atmosphere. It is fulfilling to be in an environment where people are driven to do good things, to be kind to animals. It has brought me a sense of belonging and happiness that came at the perfect time.

What would you like to say to anyone considering volunteering for BCDH?

I would say that if you are able to give even a little time, it’s a rewarding experience. Bath Cats & Dogs Home is a welcoming place that makes an effort to show they value their volunteers. Whatever the role, there is opportunity to learn a lot about animal welfare and hear fascinating stories about the animals that come and go.
