Mildred's ears were swollen and bloody, and needed medical care to relieve her pain.
What would have started as a pimple on her ear had turned into several thick, puss-filled lumps by the time we met her. Mildred’s ears were chronically infected but what was causing the main concern was the effect of this pain – Mildred had been shaking her head so much that her ear had swollen with blood - an ear hematoma commonly known as cabbage or cauliflower ear. It would have been a hundred times more painful than the original infection.
Under operation, the pockets of blood were drained and her ears cleaned. We could see this must have been a recurring issue in her young life, and a result of both poor breeding and poor health care.
The operation was a success, and although her ears were not the prettiest, she was no longer in pain.
Mildred will be matched with a home where her owners understand she needs a little extra health care, with regular vet-prescribed ear wash three times a week for the rest of her life. Sadly, owning breeds such as French Bulldogs often comes at a big price for owners, and for the dogs.
